Computational Linguist — AI / Language Learning

Role Overview

We're looking for a Computational Linguist to support the development of AI-powered language learning features. This is a hands-on role at the intersection of linguistics, data, and AI, focused on improving prompt quality, evaluation systems, and overall learning outcomes.

You'll work closely with Learning Designers and AI/Engineering teams to build and refine scalable language systems used by millions of learners.

Responsibilities

• Design and refine prompts for AI-powered learning features
• Evaluate and improve LLM outputs and prompt performance
• Build and maintain evaluation and benchmarking frameworks
• Apply knowledge of linguistics and language acquisition to improve product quality
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering teams
• Support content tagging and structuring for AI systems

Requirements

• Master's degree in computational linguistics, applied linguistics, NLP, or related field
• Strong knowledge of linguistics (syntax, semantics, pragmatics, etc.)
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience
• Experience with prompt design, evaluation, or NLP workflows
• Familiarity with LLMs and AI tools
• Strong data-driven mindset
• C2-level English
• Experience in EdTech
• Experience working with LLMs (e.g., prompt writing, evaluation frameworks)
• Experience with content systems or structured datasets
• Highly hands-on and detail-oriented
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
• Able to balance linguistic rigor with product speed and iteration

Contractor Pay Range

• UK: $60-90/hr
• Spain: $45-70/hr
• Portugal: $40-65/hr
• Final rate based on location, qualifications, and experience
