FP&A Expert

Role Overview

Mercor is collaborating with a leading AI research organization to improve AI capabilities for real-world finance workflows. Mercor is seeking experienced FP&A experts to contribute domain-authentic financial analysis data used to train advanced AI systems. Contributors will simulate how finance professionals work in Excel by creating datasets, analytical tasks, and expert-validated solutions. Each task is expected to take approximately 5–10 hours to complete, inclusive of dataset creation, question design, golden response generation, and recording of the walkthroughs and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

• Create realistic FP&A-style Excel datasets that reflect real business scenarios
• Create FP&A-style Excel workbooks by repurposing or recreating representative datasets based on prior experience, ensuring no use of sensitive or proprietary data
• Author at least five complex, multi-step FP&A analysis prompts per dataset (e.g., variance analysis, scenario modeling, trend analysis)
• Produce expert-validated "golden" responses and final Excel outputs for each prompt
• Define evaluation criteria used to assess correctness and quality of analyses
• Record end-to-end screen walkthroughs explaining analytical reasoning and Excel workflows

Ideal Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of professional experience in an FP&A role
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivots, data transformation, analysis)
• Strong ability to structure financial data and explain analytical decision-making
• Clear verbal communication skills for recorded walkthrough
