Literature Specialist

Role Overview

Mercor is collaborating with a leading technology company to engage experienced literature professionals on a project basis. Contractors will help develop a diverse dataset of tasks that assess and enhance AI systems’ performance on complex literary interpretation, synthesis, and analytical reasoning. This work is ideal for experts with a deep understanding of literary texts and critical analysis who can contribute independently and asynchronously.

Key Responsibilities

• Design rigorous literature-based tasks across genres, time periods, and analytical frames
• Edit and evaluate AI-generated responses for clarity, interpretive depth, and alignment with academic standards
• Develop variations of prompts based on response length, tone, style, and intended audience
• Identify and document model failure cases where AI outputs lack insight or accuracy
• Collaborate asynchronously with peers and researchers through structured feedback and shared documentation

Ideal Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Literature, English, or a related humanities discipline
• 2+ years of experience in literary teaching, research, or publishing
• Strong grounding in both canonical and contemporary literary works
• Exceptional writing, editing, and interpretive skills
• Ability to assess reasoning and articulate feedback clearly
