Role Overview

We're a digital marketing agency looking for an engineer, not a campaign manager, to build and own the measurement backend behind our Google Ads accounts. You'll be responsible for the plumbing that gets accurate conversion data from our landing pages and CRM back into Google Ads, so our campaign team can optimize on real outcomes rather than form-fill proxies. This is a hands-on technical role focused on tracking architecture, data integrity, and integrations.

What you'll do

  • Design and deploy server-side GTM containers (Google Cloud / Stape or equivalent) and migrate client-side tags server-side
  • Implement offline conversion tracking and Enhanced Conversions for Leads - capturing GCLID/GBRAID/WBRAID at form submission, storing it, and importing downstream conversions back to Google Ads
  • Build and maintain integrations between our CRM (HubSpot) and Google Ads so that lead-stage and revenue events flow back automatically
  • Work directly with the Google Ads API for conversion uploads, Customer Match audience syncs, and reporting where the UI falls short
  • Implement reliable GCLID and UTM capture on landing pages (data layer, hidden fields, cookie/first-party storage) and fix attribution gaps
  • Configure Consent Mode v2 and ensure tracking is privacy-compliant
  • Diagnose and fix tracking failures - broken conversions, duplicate or missing events, API upsert errors, mismatched IDs

Required

  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience with server-side GTM (not just client-side container work)
  • Proven offline / CRM-based conversion tracking setup, end to end
  • Direct experience with the Google Ads API (conversion upload, Customer Match, or reporting)
  • Comfortable writing code - JavaScript and at least one of Python / server-side scripting; working with REST APIs, webhooks, and JSON
  • Solid understanding of GCLID, attribution windows, and how Google Ads consumes conversion data

Nice to have

  • HubSpot (or comparable CRM) API and workflow experience
  • Google Cloud (Cloud Functions, BigQuery), Stape, or similar sGTM hosting
  • GA4 measurement protocol and cross-domain tracking
  • Experience in a lead-gen / agency context
